How are dogs and cats killed in the shelter?

The gas chamber (rather than intravenous injection) is widely used to kill dogs and cats in Japan. The Japanese government claims that the gas chamber enables animals euthanized. As a matter of fact, the reality is very different.

Here is the process of culling:

1. All dogs and cats will be killed in the shelter within 7 days unless new foster-parents do not adopt them.

2. Kittens will be killed within 2 to 3 days because caretakers must feed them every 3 hours. Taking care of little cats is much more laborious than mature cats.

3. In the gas chamber, carbon monoxide (CO) is used to suffocate dogs and cats.

4. All dogs and cats writhe in agony for 15 to 20 minutes and are chocked to death.

5. Some dogs and cats survived in the gas chamber. However, they and dead animals are immediately sent to the incinerator.

6. The ashes of dogs and cats are discarded in the garbage dump.

7. Some dogs and cats are sent to science laboratory for experiment.

Here is the data of the dogs and cats killed in the shelter (1974-2015)

-The orange bar graph indicates the number of the cats culled. The blue bar graph indicates the number of dogs culled.

The above graph shows exponential decay of population of dogs and cats in the kill-shelter. In 1974, approximately 1,221,000 dogs and cats were culled. In 2015, estimated total 83,000 were killed.
